An age when all the people are confused and try to take decisions that will define their lives; Gaga went through this horrible experience. She said that the song will remain close to her heart. The song made her quite emotional.

Lady Gaga opens up about getting raped at 19 and how it completely changed her life

Lady Gaga expresses what she went through during a discussion

She talked about the incident extensively on a TimesTalks panel. While promoting the documentary at the show, she talked about how she felt after the incident and how the incident changed the way she looked at things. She spoke about the pain that she went through and how dealing with this trauma was shattering for her soul. “I didn’t tell anyone for I think seven years… I didn’t know how to think about it. I didn’t know how to accept it. I didn’t know how to not blame myself or think it was my fault. It’s something that really changed my life. It changed who I was completely. It changed my body, it changed my thoughts”, explained Gaga. She went on about how the change affected her entire perception about life and how she became a changed person after that traumatic incident.

You can only understand few experiences when you have been through it yourself. She discussed at the panel discussion how that one incident took over her emotional, mental and physical well-being. Gaga further explained, “When you go through a trauma like that, it doesn’t just have the immediate physical ramifications. For many people it has almost like trauma, where you re-experience it through the years after it. It can trigger patterns in your body of physical distress. So a lot of people suffer not just emotional and mental pain, but physical pain as a result of being abused, raped or traumatized in some way”.

A long battle of overcoming the trauma

The incident has left some deep scars and her subconscious mind is always aware now. It took her years of struggle and a constant display of strength to get over the trauma and move above the pain that followed. To not tell anybody and fight with the incident alone is not something easy and requires a great deal of courage.

The singer also shared that the process of healing has not been easy for her. All she had was her own self and it took her years to understand that she was not responsible for whatever happened and she must move on. “Because of the way that I dress, and the way that I’m provocative as a person, I thought I had brought it on myself in some way. That it was my fault”, told the 29 year old singer. But then she decided that she needs to be strong and she cannot let a single incident define her. “I don’t want to be defined by it. I’ll be damned if somebody’s gonna say that every creatively intelligent thing that I ever did is all boiled down to one d—head that did that to me, I’m gonna take responsibility for all my pain looking beautiful and all the things I’ve made out of my strife. I did that”, she told Howard Stern on his radio show last December.
