London Coliseum was bustling with faces that define fashion as the British Fashion Awards were held on November 23rd. The evening was celebrated by honoring the achievements of the most prominent faces in the fashion industry.

One of the most coveted awards, the award for the Model of the Year, was received by Jourdan Dunn. She received the award from Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing. Her acceptance speech was nothing like 2008, the last time when she won the coveted award. “You’re going to make me cry. What the f**k? I won this in 2008, I was a hot mess, (and) my speech was a hot mess. It was all a mess. So short and sweet this time. Thank you to the British Fashion Council, I don’t know what to say. Thank you to my mum and my son Riley, who wanted me to stay in bed and watch TV with him. This is for him,” said Jourdan.

The Show-Stealers at the British Fashion Awards

The recent phenomenon, singer FKA twigs, was named the Fashion Innovator of the Year. In her emotional acceptance speech, she thanked her mom and said, “I would like to dedicate this award to my mum because she used to make clothes that she wore and I wore. I used to want just a tenth of what she had—people used to look at her in the street because she looked so great. My nanna inspired us to be brave and creative and beautiful on the inside as well as the outside”.

The event also had the power couple David Beckham and Victoria Beckham honoring the red carpet. As Victoria was nominated for Womenswear Designer Award, David Beckham was there to support her. David wore a black suit and bow tie while Victoria posed in a matching black tuxedo with satin detailing. One more couple who stole the limelight as they graced the red carpet was Molly King and David Gandy. Both of them had some PDA moments as they walked wearing matching monochrome outfits.

The night was, in particular, extremely successful for JW Anderson, as the Northern Irish designer won the award for two coveted categories. He was honored as the Menswear and Womenswear designer of the year. He had stiff competition from other nominees that included elite and big names like Victoria Beckham and Christopher Kane. He received the award from Orlando Bloom and Noomi Rapace.

Honoring the Achievers in Fashion

Another highlighting moment was Karl Lagerfeld being awarded with the Outstanding Achievement Trophy by Anna Wintour. The multi-faceted personality was honored with the renowned title as Wintour went on and on about his amazing talent. Alessandro Michelle, creative director at Gucci, won the award for International Designer. Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, who arrived dressed as the Absolutely Fabulous characters Edina and Patsy, presented Stella McCartney with the Brand of the Year Award. The audience was in shock and awe to see Lady Gaga ditching her electric attire; she chose to wear a red gown by Tom Ford with a soignée blonde updo. She accepted the Red Carpet award on behalf of Tom Ford. The British Awards are important and recognize the names that revolutionized fashion with their creativity and efforts. The night saw some big names being honored, celebrating fashion in its every true essence.
