NEW YORK, Dec. 1 (UPI) — President-elect Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell have been viciously trading insults about each other for years, but a public outcry over O’Donnell’s recent barb thrown at 10-year-old Barron Trump suggests there’s a limit for how mean they can be to each other.

O’Donnell issued an apology on Twitter to Melania Trump — but not the president-elect — for her “insensitive” public musing about whether or not her son is autistic.

In a since deleted tweet, O’Donnell retweeted a link to a video suggesting the 10-year-old may be autistic based on a few video clips. The comedian was roundly called out for speculating about a medical condition based on disliking his father’s politics.

“I apologize to @melaniatrump,” O’Donnell tweeted. “I was insensitive in my RT. I am sorry for the pain I caused — it was not my intent. I am truly sorry.”

Melania Trump had already reacted to James Hunter’s video on YouTube featuring clips from Trump’s election night victory speech and other campaign events when O’Donnell tweeted a link to the video.

“Barron Trump autistic?” O’Donnell said in the now-deleted tweet. “If so, what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the autism epidemic.”

O’Donnell, whose three-year-old daughter is autistic, attempted to clarify what she meant by the tweet with a post on her website. She wrote that while she does not like Trump, she has “no ill will for his children, or any children” and that she genuinely felt if Barron were autistic it could help bring more attention to the condition.

“It was incredibly irresponsible of me to diagnose Barron Trump using a selection of misleading videos,” Hunter also said in an apology. “I falsely correlated him trying to stay awake and occasionally doing quirky things, with him suffering from autism,”
