Conor McGregor has confirmed that he will make a major announcement after his upcoming UFC 205 showdown with Eddie Alvarez.

The particulars of that announcement, however, remain a mystery. And McGregor (20-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) recently revealed to MMAjunkie he’s not going to let the cat out of the bag until he settles his business with Alvarez (28-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in next month’s lightweight championship bout.

“Buy the pay-per-view and stay tuned,” McGregor told MMAjunkie. “Don’t blink. It’s going to be big.”

UFC 205 takes place Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. McGregor, the UFC featherweight champ, challenges Alvarez for lightweight gold in the pay-per-view headliner following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

McGregor will be going for history at the event. UFC Hall of Famers B.J. Penn and Randy Couture have previously achieved title wins in two weight classes, but neither fighter held two belts simultaneously during their respective careers.

If McGregor can accomplish the feat and beat Alvarez, it would put him in a position of power in the sport unlike anyone before him. UFC President Dana White insists “The Notorious” will have to drop one title, but McGregor has made it clear it won’t be that easy, declaring that it would take “an army” to get either belt away from him.

The nature of McGregor’s announcement could impact the situation, though, because several title-ready contenders are waiting in the wings at both 155 and 145 pounds. It could also have nothing to do with fighting because White labeled McGregor’s announcement as something entirely unexpected.

“There are… how can I say this? There are other circumstances involved in this that will be played out after the fight,” White recently told WFAN’s “Outside The Cage” podcast. “It’s something completely out of left field but it’s Conor’s business, it’s not mine, and I’ll let Conor announce it when he’s ready to.”

McGregor said the announcement will come at UFC 205, potentially during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan (assuming he gets one). With the champion vs. champion fight atop the card as well as two other title bouts and an abundance of other quality matchups scheduled, there are already plenty of reasons to check out UFC 205. McGregor’s announcement tease just adds to the list.

“It’s always positive with me,” McGregor said. “So all I’ll say is tune in.”
