Clinton Tells Greenpeace Activist She’s ‘Sick of the Sanders Campaign Lying About Me’
Hillary Clinton was visibly angry at a campaign event on Thursday when questioned by an environmental activist about donations to her campaign from the fossil fuel industry. While shaking hands with voters during an event at the State University of New York at Purchase, Greenpeace USA activist Eva Resnick-Day asked the Democratic presidential candidate if she would reject fossil fuel money. The question clearly aggravated Clinton, who immediately snapped back. “I am so sick — I am so sick of the Sanders campaign lying about me. I am sick of it,” she said. Greenpeace USA subsequently posted the video online. It was shot in partnership with the environmental group 350 Action. The Sanders campaign fired back at Clinton’s assertion saying that she has taken contributions from lobbyists for fossil fuel companies. According to FactCheck.org, Clinton’s campaign has not accepted any direct contributions from an oil or gas corporation. A Greenpeace report found that Clinton…

Ben Carson: Trump Not a “Straight-Down-The-Line” Conservative
Ben Carson says Donald Trump is “probably not” a “straight-down-the-line” conservative. But the former Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon, who endorsed Trump after suspending his own presidential campaign, doesn’t see that as a problem and says he’s not “necessarily a conservative either.” “Are all of his beliefs straight-down-the-line conservative? Probably not,” Carson said during an interview on ABC News’ “Powerhouse Politics” podcast Thursday. “But the way I kind of look it at it is anyone who is a thinking individual really shouldn’t be straight-down-the-line anything.” Using himself as an example, Carson said life experience and not a party platform should be the guiding principle for one’s policy positions. “I always tell people I’m not necessarily a conservative either, what I am is a person who believes in common sense, so some of the things I talk about are not necessarily big on the conservative agenda,” Carson said. He pointed to Trump’s…

NOTABLES –HILLARY CLINTON CALLS ON CHUCK GRASSLEY TO ‘STEP UP AND DO HIS JOB’: Hillary Clinton blasted Republican lawmakers Monday for not holding a hearing for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland. She called on Sen. Chuck Grassley, the GOP chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to “step up and do his job.” “He should hold a hearing, and he should schedule it as soon as the Senate returns from recess,” Clinton said Monday at an event at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, ABC’s MATTHEW CLAIBORNE reports. Clinton also argued that the battle over a new Supreme Court justice was revealing the worst in Republicans during this current presidential election cycle. “The same obstructionism that we’ve seen from Republicans since the beginning of the Obama administration, the same disregard for the rule of law that’s given rise to the extremist candidacies of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz — it’s corroding our democracy, and it has to stop,” Clinton said….

The Note: What the Sanders Sweep Means
NOTABLES –WHY BERNIE SANDERS’ WEST COAST BLOWOUTS MATTER: Bernie Sanders did not just win all three states that voted this weekend — Washington, Alaska and Hawaii — he won them by overwhelming, impressive margins, ABC’s MARYALICE PARKS notes. The presidential hopeful won every county in Washington, and some of his biggest victory margins came from the state’s most rural and traditionally conservative areas. The win will likely mean a fundraising boost for the small-donor driven campaign. Sanders does not have a super PAC and instead has enjoyed injections of cash from his fans after big wins or important nights in the election calendar. http://abcn.ws/1ML7w8d –THE WINS ALSO VALIDATE SANDERS’ COMMITMENT TO AN EXTENDED PRIMARY: Despite the fact that he is trailing Hillary Clinton by a significant number of delegates needed for the nomination, Sanders has pledged to stay in the race until all 50 states get their say. Since all delegates on the Democratic side are awarded…

The Note: Donald Trump’s Delegate Protection Program
NOTABLES –THE INSIDE STORY OF TRUMP’S CONVENTION STRATEGY: As Donald Trump rolls through the political calendar, his campaign has already begun focusing on a new battle that may have a broader set of consequences — finding delegates who will be loyal to his cause at the Republican National Convention. Part of the battle has come in the form of emails to delegates and supporters trying to lock down crucial votes. The other half is a five-person task force that has been quietly being trying to amass the 1,237 votes needed. Candidates accumulate their delegate count based on the primary or caucus vote, but the processes by which the actual human beings are chosen to fill these delegate slots take place much later and vary by state. ABC’s KATHERINE FAULDERS and RYAN STRUYK have more. http://abcn.ws/25ocm6J –EMAILS OBTAINED BY ABC NEWS SHOW THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN CALLING ON SUPPORTERS in Michigan to watch for precinct-level delegates who may defect to a rival candidate during a…

NOTABLES –TRUMP TARGETS TED CRUZ’S WIFE ON TWITTER — AGAIN: For the second night in a row, Donald Trump took to Twitter to target the wife of his fiercest rival in the GOP presidential race, Sen. Ted Cruz. On Wednesday, Trump retweeted a post showing a side by side image of Heidi Cruz and Trump’s wife, Melania, ABC’s JESSICA HOPPER reports. Text on the picture read: “No need to ‘spill the beans.’ The images are worth a thousand words.” Cruz quickly responded with a tweet of his own saying, “Donald, real men don’t attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.” The latest spat between the real estate mogul and the Texas senator follows Trump’s Twitter threat on Tuesday night to “spill the beans” about Cruz’s wife.
