New York City FC lands Jack Harrison

Amid Confusion, Harrison climbed atop the MLS draft podium after eventually ending up with NYCFC following MLS draft whirlwind.

Surrounded by chaos and mayhem, Jack Harrison was named the number 1 overall selection by the Chicago Fire. However, after thanking Chicago Fire for having faith in him, Harrison quickly came to realize that he has been traded with NYCFC coming in and taking him away from the Chicago Fire.

After the draft, reports emerged that the Chicago Fire have executed a trade by sending the no. 4 selection and allocation money to NYCFC. However, the name of the player was kept in secret for a little while and only after half an hour, it was then confirmed that NYCFC has traded for Harrison.

Reflecting on the situation, Harrison stated that it feels nice to be wanted. The fact that NYCFC went all this trouble to get him told how much they wanted him. He added that he is excited by all the proceedings and is looking forward to the next step.

“It was all very exciting,” Harrison told Goal USA. “It’s nice to be wanted. It’s very humbling that New York would go out of their way to get me. I’m just happy to see what the next step holds.”

According to reports, NYCFC were in deep discussions with Fire on the issue of trading up Harrison. However, with draft reaching closer, the two clubs appear to be in a position of impasse. But when Garber was preparing herself to give his opening remarks at the draft on Thursday, reports started to emerge from the clubs that the trade between Colorado Rapid and Philadelphia Union has pushed NYCFC and Chicago Fire to sit down and decide the fate of Harrison. And minutes before Garber’s opening statement at the drafts, the two teams came to an agreement.

Reyna added that they had lost all hope of getting Harrison and it was all over. The way NYCFC got him was pretty crazy and we had already working on a plan B after accepting defeat in our chase of Harrison.

“I would say 10 minutes before the first pick we felt we had no chance of getting him,” Reyna said. “It was pretty crazy for us because we were already thinking about Plan B.”

Reyna and NYCFC had been keeping tabs on Jack Harrison for a long time. They had tried signing him as one of the homegrown players in the past because of the fact that Harrison spent three years playing for Manhattan Soccer Club, which is affiliated with NYCFV youth system. But their claim was rejected by the MLS and Harrison moved on from all that.

Harrison is really looking forward to play for NYCFC and play under one of the bet footballers of its time, Patrick Vieira. Talking to reporters, he said that playing under the tutelage of a player like Vieira would be like a dream come true. Any footballer would be thrilled by this opportunity.
