Plus-size Designer Ashley Nell Tipton wins the latest ‘Project Runway’ Season

Ashley Nell tipton, the new winner of Project Runway, is bring a revolution in plus sized fashion

Two months back, on September 11, six Project Runway finalists showed their collection at Skylight, Moynihan Station for the reality show’s annual New York Fashion Week Show. The identity of one designer was kept a secret at that moment to avoid spoilers. The designs by the same designer have now garnered a lot of healthy attention. The designer behind that collection, Ashley Nell Tipton, has been crowned as the winner for Season 14 of the show.

It was not just her designs that won her this award but also her approach and thought process that made her the winner. Ashley Nell Tipton is an unconventional person, both physically and emotionally. This is what made her collection stand out. She is the first contestant on the Project Runway to show a complete plus-size collection. She brought a revolution with her full figure collection. Ashley is from San Diego and has a new and fresh approach for fashion. She beat the other three finalists, Candice Cuoco, Kelly Dempsey, and Edmund Newton, to take away the much-coveted title.

The courage shown by Ashley was extremely commendable. What makes it all the more interesting is the way she broke the status quo of the plus-size fashion industry. She brings all the colors and experiments extensively with the patterns. She respects curvy women and designs clothes that accentuate their curves beautifully. In fact, this is not something which Tipton started after coming on the show. Before participating in the Project Runway, she had been selling plus-size garments that were full of colors and brighter patterns.

Her mission is pretty clear. She wants full-figured women to have options to express their style and emphasize their individuality. She wants them to be on par with the so-called “standard size” women rather than feeling left out.  Ashley Tipton has big plans, and she will open her new store soon. “I feel happier than I have ever felt in my life—not just to have won Project Runway, but more so that the world will get to see my voice and my heart through my designs,” said Tipton after winning Project Runway. She wants to introduce a completely different couture for the plus-sized women. The lilac-haired designer wishes to make this exclusive collection more colorful, vibrant, and bring in new designs.

The plan is to break all the old norms for plus-sized fashion and set new benchmarks. She wants to bring in new colors and remove the pitfalls that say that black is the only available color. Curvy women should stop thinking that they should wear what looks slimming and wear what looks beautiful, Says Tipton. She experiments a lot, and hence her collection had different patterns, designs, and cuts that you do not generally find in the regular plus-size collection.

As the season closes, Ashley takes a lot of experience home, along with some stunning prizes. She will receive $100,000, a brand new car, a Fashion Spread in Marie Claire magazine, and a cruise vacation.
