Will Smith: The Fresh Prince from Bel-Air’s Unexpected Surprise

Will Smith

Will Smith’s fans thought they might never hear him sing again, as movies have become his go-to forte for the past ten years. When Big Willie, a Columbian band, congratulated Bomba Estéreo on their Latin Grammy nominations, his fans began to speculate on the reason behind the mention, if there was even any connection. To their surprise, their investigation into the Columbian band’s nominated single uncovered the collaboration between Bomba Estéreo and Will Smith.

How the unique collaboration did came about? Where did these two even meet? Bomba Estéreo didn’t request Smith to collaborate with them, but it was the other way around. When Smith was in Columbia, he heard the band’s song “Fiesta.” Everywhere he went, he heard the song blasting loudly and the unique sound grew on him.

He absolutely loved the fusion of Columbian beats with electronica. Will Smith He jammed to the song, but didn’t know the band or singer behind it, until he found the song on his manager’s playlist. He loved the single so much that he wanted to set up a meeting between him and the band. Thank the musical gods for making this happen, as the single is great.

Smith’s manager reached out to Simón Mejia, founder and multi-instrumentalist of Bomba Estéreo, asking him if they could do a remix version of the hit Columbian single “Fiesta.” When Will Smith personally asks to sing with you, you don’t say no, but you jump at the chance, which is what the band did.

Bomba Estéreo was on cloud nine at having a chance to sing with one of music’s greats. Plus, Smith picked them to make his reentry into the music scene. What can you expect from the single, which will be available digitally this Friday? Will Smith rapping in English and Spanish, that’s what!

You can hear Smith with lines such as “Hola mamacita, go get me a beer-a!” and “no gas for me, I’m a Tesla!” Will Smith is featured in the band’s video for the single as well, which is a double delight for his fans. What does this mean for the Columbian band?

The Columbian band received exposure in the United States where American audiences didn’t know their single or their band’s name. With the unexpected help from Smith, their band has now become a known name in the U.S. and to any of Smith’s fans living anywhere in the world. The band earned new fans and they are thankful for Smith taking time out to collaborate with them on their single.

The manager of the band said, “We all had a blast together at the video shoot, and we want to thank Will for being so warm and such a pleasure to work with […] and for rapping in Spanish!”

All of his fans now want him to keep hitting them with the rhymes, embrace his musical side, and keep on surprising them with collaborations and hopefully soon, an album. Fingers crossed!
